Aluminium chloride, an inorganic compound with the chemical formula AlCl3, is a compound of chlorine and aluminium. Aluminium chloride has a low melting and boiling point and sublimates, and is a covalent compound. Melted aluminium chloride does not readily conduct electricity, unlike most salts containing halogen ions (e.g. sodium chloride ).
AlCl3 is "YCl3" structure, for the Al3 + cubic densest stacked layer structure, while AlBr3 in Al3 + but accounted for the Br - the densest stacked framework of the adjacent tetrahedral interstices. When melting AlCl3 to generate volatile dimer Al2Cl6, containing two three-centre four-electron chlorine bridge bond, higher temperatures Al2Cl6 dimer is dissociated to generate planar triangular AlCl3, and boron trifluoride (BF3) structure is similar.
Aluminium chloride is a white crystalline powder. Aluminium chloride vapour or dissolved in non-polar solvents or in the molten state, are in the form of covalent dimer molecules (Al2Cl6). It is soluble in water and many organic solvents. Aqueous solutions are acidic. Aluminium chloride mixed with aluminium in the presence of aromatic hydrocarbons can be used to synthesise di(aromatic) metal complexes. For example, diphenylchromium is prepared by Fischer-Hafner synthesis of specific metal halides.
Physical and chemical properties

Toxicity
When this product is splashed on the skin, it should be dry wiped off first, and then washed with water, otherwise, the skin will be severely burned due to contact with water.
